Just Some Old Friends

I don't really have a good place to put these pictures, but I can't resist posting them.  These are what greeted me a I first approached the Folger building.  I didn't get a wide shot of any of them, mostly because I was deathly afraid of being seen walking on the grass, but I'll bet that you can figure out who they're supposed to be!

My trip continues ...

This posting marathon, in celebration of Shakespeare Day, is brought to you by nothing but my time, my resources, and my love for the subject. While we'll always be the original Shakespeare blog, it takes a significant amount of effort to make us the best in the digital universe.  If you've not yet seen how you can show your support, now's a great opportunity.  If you've already done so, thanks very much!

Three witches, Titania and Puck, two random lovers... who are the others?

Falstaff, Richard III, Lear, Hamlet. And the two random lovers and Romeo and Juliet.

I wonder whether one of my Folger friends is hanging out and can tell us anything about who made the outdoor art?

I love these sculptures.
I had a copy of Midsummer when I was a kid (I think it was a Folger edition!) and it had a picture of that Titania and Bottom scene on the cover.
When I moved to DC and first visited the Folger, it gave me a little thrill to see it person.

When my theater group did Lear as part of the Folger's Secondary School Festival, we all posed in front of the Lear relief. And we definitely walked on the grass.

Do you know whether the third guy in the sculpture (besides Lear and the fool) is Kent or Gloucester? We couldn't figure it out.

I don't honestly remember, Gwen - and I don't have a picture of him unfortunately. I wonder if one of my Folger pals wil spot the question and jump in with an answer like we got for the Fool stained glass?

Just google imaged it, and I think it must be Kent.
